the idea...
Recent statistical surveys suggested a tremendous gender gap in new media-in the multimedia industry and on the internet.
Curiously, stories revealing the documented demographics of Cyberspace constitute the few mentions of women in the press which heralds and documents new media. I would suggest that the perceived gender inequity in emerging technologies is due in part to the serious under-representation of women in the media-print, broadcast, cinematic-covering the internet and the multimedia industry.Hip-posturing tech rags like WiReD are no exception. In order to highlight the profile of women working in new media, Women in Multimedia, a bay area non-profit organization, feature monthly speakers, established professionals in the field, from artists to engineers. I have written articles covering these presentations in the on-going effort to increase the representation of women in the media covering emerging technologies.
